AI Chat in interviews
AI Chat allows candidates to chat with an AI assistant from a side panel during a FaceCode interview, without leaving the interview screen. Candidates can ask questions and get help while they work on the problem, and interviewers can follow the conversation as it happens.
AI Chat is turned off by default and must be enabled for each interview individually.
Enabling AI Chat for an interview
To enable AI Chat, follow these steps:
- Log in to the HackerEarth Recruit dashboard at https://app.hackerearth.com/recruiter.
- In the left panel, click Interviews.
- Click the name of the interview that you want to edit. To set up a new interview instead, click Create interview link.
- Scroll down to the Settings section.
- Turn on the AI Chat toggle.

- Save the interview.
AI Chat is now available to the candidate in this interview. You can turn the toggle off at any time while editing the interview.
Note: Enabling AI Chat applies only to the interview in which you enable it. It does not change the setting for any of your other interviews.
Candidate experience
During the interview, the candidate can open the AI Chat panel from the interview screen and continue working in the code editor alongside it. The candidate enters a question in the Ask me anything... field and the assistant responds in the same panel.

The following limits apply to each interview:
- Messages: A candidate can send up to 30 messages per interview. The number of messages used is displayed below the input field, for example, 1/30 messages used.
- Message length: Each message can contain a maximum of 2,000 characters. The character count is displayed below the input field.
When a candidate reaches the message limit, they cannot send further messages in that interview.
Interviewer view
Interviewers can see the candidate's conversation with the AI assistant in real time from the same panel during the interview. This view is read-only — interviewers can follow the conversation but cannot send messages to the AI assistant or to the candidate through this panel.
Viewing the conversation in the interview report
The complete AI chat conversation is saved when the interview ends and remains available in the interview report.
To view the conversation, follow these steps:
- Open the report of the interview.
- Click the Chats tab.
- In the Chats pane on the left, click AI chat.
The full conversation is displayed with the sender and a timestamp for each message.

Note: The Chats tab also contains Public chats and Interviewers chats from the interview. The AI chat conversation appears only under AI chat.
