OnScreen: AI interviewer

OnScreen is an AI interviewer that conducts a structured technical interview with your candidates and returns a scored, evidence-backed report for each one. Instead of scheduling a screening round with every applicant, you create an interview template once and invite candidates to take the interview whenever they are ready.

Use OnScreen when you have more candidates to screen than interviewer time, when you want every candidate to be assessed against the same set of skills, or when scheduling across time zones is slowing your pipeline down.

What OnScreen does

Conducts the interview in voice mode

The AI interviewer speaks with the candidate and responds to what they say, so the session feels like a real interview rather than a form. Candidates answer aloud, as they would with a human interviewer.

Covers the skills you choose

An interview template defines the skills that the interview covers, across both technical and soft skills. You can build a template from a job description by using the AI builder, or create one manually and pick the skills yourself. For more information, see Creating an interview template in OnScreen.

Scores each candidate against those skills

Each candidate's report shows an overall score out of 100 and a score for each skill that was evaluated, so you can see where a candidate is strong and where they are not. You can download the report, the interview transcription, and the candidate's responses. For more information, see Downloading candidate data and reports in OnScreen.

Checks interview integrity

Proctoring controls run during the interview, and the results appear on the candidate's report as an integrity index and an AI-likeness result. You can turn each control on or off for a template:

  • AI Likeness Detection: Analyzes candidate responses for similarity with AI-generated language.
  • Enforce Candidate Video: Records candidate video and flags issues such as a missing candidate, multiple candidates, or mobile phone usage during the interview.
  • Enforce Smart Browser: Requires the Smart Browser, which prevents the use of external applications during the interview.
  • ID Verification: Requires candidates to verify their identity before starting the interview.

Gives candidates feedback

Candidates receive a feedback report on their performance by email after the interview.

Shows you how the interview is performing

Template-level analytics show completion rates, score distribution, and where candidates are dropping off, so you can tell whether the interview is pitched correctly for the role. For more information, see Interview analytics in OnScreen.

Advanced settings

The Advanced settings section on a template's Overview tab contains optional settings that change how the interview session runs.

Voice accent selection

Select the accent of the AI interviewer's voice:

  • American (default)
  • British
  • Indian

Choose the accent that your candidates are most comfortable with. For India-based candidates, the Indian accent generally makes the conversation easier to follow.

Audio-only interview

Turn this on to disable video and run the interview in audio-only mode. Use this when candidates are likely to have a poor or unstable network connection — dropping video reduces the bandwidth that the session needs and helps more candidates finish the interview without disruption.
